Surrounded by the magnificence of the lush high Sonoran desert, the Pinnacle Peak area of far North Scottsdale is nestled at the northern end of the McDowell Mountains where Mother Nature’s majestic treasures are on full display. Home to a number of exclusive master-planned communities, including Troon, Troon North, Desert Highlands and Estancia, these one-of-a-kind communities boast fabulous views of glittering city lights as well as the soaring spires of Pinnacle Peak and her sibling boulder-strewn mountains and hillsides.

In the early 1980’s, visionary planning went into making this breathtaking area the haven that it is for those who enjoy an amenity-rich lifestyle. This area includes many of the oldest neighborhoods in the northern part of the city. Between one-third and one-half of the area was laid out in the county prior to annexation. Concepts such as landscape material limitations, common natural tracts, and desert sensitive design technologies were first tried in this area. Pinnacle Peak is dominated by low density, custom single family homes located in small to medium-sized subdivisions. Roughly two-thirds of these subdivisions have public streets and no perimeter walls, while the remaining one-third are gated and have perimeter walls. The most dominant landmark within the area is the cluster of businesses at the intersection of Pinnacle Peak and Pima Roads. Around half of the non-residential uses and most of the single family homes have a Mediterranean/Mission design character, while most other single family homes tend to be Santa Fe/Pueblo in style. Those neighborhoods that existed before the area was annexed into the city tend to have Eucalyptus, Pine and Olive trees, while later neighborhoods typically have native and desert landscaping.

Designed by world-renowned professional golfers with instantly recognizable names, championship golf courses dot the rugged landscape, ensuring golf aficionados will be challenged to their heart’s – and handicap’s – content. It’s important to note that one need not be a die-hard golfer to savor the high standards of this luxurious lifestyle, since these country club communities abound with social activities and some also feature tennis gardens to round out a rich menu of recreational choices.

While tucked deep in the desert, Pinnacle Peak communities are within 10 to 15 minutes of the Loop 101 freeway, providing easy access to all that the Phoenix and Scottsdale metropolitan areas have to offer: a wide variety of fine dining options, quaint eateries, upscale shopping, charming boutiques, first-rate cultural venues, numerous theaters, professional sports arenas and more. Also located nearby are busy business and financial corridors, top-rated public and private schools as well as some of the world’s most renowned medical facilities, including the Mayo Clinic.
